I’m Ray Han, a Senior Staff Engineer and Head of HyperEdge Networking at ByteDance based in Beijing. I lead the global video delivery infrastructure for Douyin and TikTok, serving billions of users on the platforms’ short videos and live streams.

My work is in production internet infrastructure at global scale. Research collaborations grow from this work, where production engineering and academic research meet on the same infrastructure. This work also extends to industry standards I’ve shaped, now adopted across the field, and to nurturing graduate researchers within these production systems.

Before ByteDance, I co-founded a real-time communication startup, building one of the world’s first production WebRTC networks.
